The Vaiamanu motu in the Raivavae lagoon is exceptional by its white sandbanks against a background of turquoise water. These expanses of sand were formed by the game of erosion and redeposition on a shoal. They result from the combined action of wind, current and waves as well as the heterogeneity of the bottom substrates.
