Sandbank and coral potatoes
0
0
On the lagoon side, the barrier reefs accumulate deposits of sand which form sandbanks, submerged or not. These light colored sandbanks are frequently dotted with coral potatoes which appear as darker spots. Coral potatoes are made up of massive, slow-growing species which adapt to the salinity conditions and the flow of nutrients of their environment.
