Saint Odile and the cathedral of Strasbourg
0
0
For 93 years, Sainte Odile has dominated Alsace from the top of the mountain that bears her name. Her statue looks over the Alsatian plain but does not stand due east. It is, in fact, oriented in the axis of the spire of the cathedral of Strasbourg. This distant face-to-face is a reference to Alfred Klem, the creator of the statue. When he shaped it, he was also the director of the sculpture workshop in the cathedral.
