Saint Sixte day's pilgrimage
0
0
Today equipped with an observation platform and orientation tables, the summit of Puy de Sancy once housed a monumental cross to which it owed its name of Puy de la Croix until the 19th century. The inhabitants of the neighboring localities used to travel there on pilgrimage every year on August 6, on Saint Sixte day. They had the habit of saying that they were going to the Puy de Saint Sixte, or Pé de San Chi in the local dialect. Since then, the tradition of pilgrimage on Saint Sixte day has turned into a moment of celebrations and gathering that gives rise to a massive hike.
