In 1960, following the construction of the Serre-Ponçon dam and the impoundment of the artificial lake, Saint-Michel chapel - the flooding of which had been programmed - remained above the surface of the water, perched on its rocky peak which became an islet. The cemetery surrounding the chapel was swallowed up, but not its wrought iron cross on its stone plinth.
