The commissioning of the washhouse and fountains of Saint-Jeannet thanks to the delivery of water by a canal connecting three sources to the village in 1876 considerably improved the daily life of the 1,027 inhabitants of the time. To maintain the water supply to the facilities, especially in summer and regardless of the flow, a diesel engine was installed in 1932 in place of the original turbine-powered elevator machine.
