Saint-Claude and its people's house

Located below the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul-et-Saint-André cathedral, the people's house (Maison du Peuple) of Saint-Claude in the Jura department stands out clearly in this photo. It is located 12 rue de la Poyat (which means 'climb'), in a street which owes its name to the fact that it links the historic center of Saint-Claude to the districts of the lower town. The headquarters of a workers' circle at the end of the 19th century, it subsequently housed the Fraternelle cooperative and all its related activities (cinema, library, theater, café, etc.). This symbol of the history of cooperation in Saint-Claude was listed as a historical monument in 1993.
