Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, one city, several dynasties
0
0
During the Middle Ages, the medieval city of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie was dominated by several feudal dynasties. The most notable were the families of Gourdon, Lapopie, and Cardaillac. It explains why the village is home to several castles and houses which constitute its seigneurial fort. Walking down the alleys of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, one can still observe the arcades of the old woodturners’ stalls, a symbol of the economic life of the time. The boat activity, represented by the towpath, is also an essential asset of the village’s merchant life.
