St-Basle church of Bouzy

As the centuries went by, the Romanesque church of Saint-Basle in Bouzy, in the Marne, proved to be too small. In the 19th century, the parishioners financed the construction of a new church, the present building, which was completed in 1856. Inside, an 18th century grey and red marble altar, a 17th century marble baptismal font, and a 15th century statue of the Virgin are the only elements that belonged to the Romanesque church, which was sold and demolished shortly afterwards. The instrumental part of the organ – built in 1855 and restored one hundred years later – is listed as a historical monument.
