Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer and Juno Beach

The village of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer in Calvados is located in the territory of Terres de Nacre, a piece of coastline stretching from Courseullles-sur-Mer to Luc-sur-Mer. The village is known to have the largest sandy beach in the region. A 5.60 miles (9 km) area between Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer and Graye-sur-Mer is one of the five beaches chosen for the June 6, 1944 Landing of Canadian and British troops. This space was codenamed Juno Beach at the time, so as not to arouse the suspicion of the Germans.
