In 1902, the Chamber of Commerce of Alençon founded a lace-making school to safeguard the local lace-making industry, which had been undermined by competition from mechanical lace due to its technicality and cost. The management of this school responsible for perpetuating the know-how of Point d'Alençon was first entrusted to Eulalie Tessier and Amandine Manoury before being taken over by the sisters Marie-Aloysius and Marie du Sacré-Coeur of the Congregation of Providence. Closed in 1975, the school was replaced by the National Conservatory Workshop of Point d'Alençon administered by the National Furniture (Mobilier National).
