Rurutu Island is famous for humpback whales watching between August and October. This activity is facilitated by the exceptional clarity of the water, much better than in Tahiti or Moorea, and the absence of lagoon that allows the whales to approach the shore. Several observation platforms have been developed along the coastal road.
