Rurutu is a green island whose makatea relief owes it the nickname of 'troglodyte island'. On the sea side, the possibilities of approach by boat are limited by its fringing reef, a few dozens of meters from the shore. The virtual absence of lagoon limits bathing but does not prevent the localized presence of deserted stretches of white sand.
