Rüppell’s Vulture
8
0
Vultures like this Rüppell’s vulture (Gyps rueppellii) from east Africa are under significant threat from poachers. The vultures are being poisoned from the carcasses of poached elephants and rhinos to prevent rangers discovering the carcasses as there will be less or no vultures circling it in the sky. Many of these vultures like the Rüppell’s are now critically endangered and they play a significant role within ecosystems acting as beacons for scavenging animals and help to aid in the decomposition of dead animals. Vultures may not be the best looking animal but are significant to ecosystems and deserve recognition and aid.
