Present in the conservatory part and the olfactory paths of the gardens of the Musée International de la Parfumerie in Mouans-Sartoux, the rose is, with jasmine and tuberose, one of the three major plants emblematic of 17th-century Grasse perfumery. The Centifolia rose, smaller but more fragrant than the common rose, was cultivated in the Grasse countryside around 1650. Jasmine arrived from India at the same time, shortly before tuberose imported from Italy and established locally around 1670.
