Due to its geographical position, Riquewihr embraces the Alsace plain from the top of its 984 ft (300 m). It is sometimes covered in mists in spring and autumn. The Schoenenbourg slope, classified AOC, is the most famous vineyard in Riquewihr. It benefits from exposure to the sun which favors one of the best wines in the region. Further on, the village's winegrowers' houses from the Renaissance stand surrounded by 13th-century ramparts.
