The sun rises in Riquewihr in the Haut-Rhin department. Elevated to the rank of city in 1291, the medieval city built a wall and developed its vineyards. Several times besieged and plundered before the Revolution, Riquewihr would escape the destructions of the Second World War thus preserving to this day its beautiful Alsatian half-timbered houses (from the 13th up to 18th c.). In autumn, the harvest lasts until the end of October for the great vintages and the late harvest. The vineyards around Riquewihr then take on scarlet hues that last almost until the Christmas market period.
