The term 'ripple-marks' refers to long, parallel and evenly spaced wrinkles, which can be observed in sandy sediments. Their formation may be due to the movement of the waves for symmetrical wrinkles, or to the action of currents for asymmetrical ones. The ridge direction is perpendicular to the movement of the water and the gently sloping side indicates where the current comes from.
