Rimatara: the central node for the protection of the Kuhl's lorikeet
1
0
Kuhl's lorikeet is also called Rimatara lorikeet. The reason is simple: the immense majority of this endangered species lives on Rimatara. At the contrary of its neighbors, Rimatara was spared by the double threats of the black rats and cats imported by travelers. The re-introduction of the Kuhl's lorikeet in the Cook islands has started in April 2007 with the settlement of 27 specimens collected in Rimatara.
