Located on the island of Mangareva, Rikitea is the capital of Gambier Islands, French Polynesia. Cradle of Polynesian catholicism, the village is home to the Cathedral Saint-Michel which can welcome 1,200 people. It was erected in coral blocks in 1841 by Honoré Laval. Located at the foot of Mount Duff (1446ft/441m), the village is built around the unique street that runs along the lagoon.
