Southern white rhino, new threats to the species

At the beginning of the XXth century, there were only a hundred of southern white rhinos identified in the Eastern part of South Africa, in KwaZulu-Natal region. Thanks to the conservation measures taken, there are now about 20 000 individuals across Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Kenya. Notwithstanding, the other sub-species, the northern white rhino, is racing extinction. Since March 2018, there would only remain two females in the wild.
