Restoring the mangroves
1
0
In New Caledonia, mangroves cover 135 sq miles (350 km2) of the 6 467 sq miles (16,750 km2) of Grande Terre. However, it is undergoing deforestation and landfill in order to cope with the increase in population. Mining and aquaculture are also contributing to its deterioration. Almost everywhere in the North Province, the local authorities lead information missions and engage the population to participate in the restoration of mangroves degraded by the planting new trees.
