Originally a reception gallery designed for Louis XIV, the Gallery of Apollo was restored to its former glory after a 10-month renovation in 2019. The Louvre has methodically cleaned the twenty-eight Gobelins tapestries and the numerous stuccos and paintings. The lighting has been completely renovated and brings the gilding to life gently without making it dazzling. The exceptional decor serves as a showcase for the Crown diamonds, now displayed in three new display cases. The presentation of Louis XIV’s hard stone collections in the old gilded wooden showcases has been completely redesigned.
