Restaured under Wilhelm II

The restoration of the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg aimed to establish the authority of Kaiser Wilhelm II over the Alsatian and Lorraine territories. The clearing of the site in 1900 released many archaeological elements from the ruins, such as ironwork or stove tiles. Large-scale technical means were put in place. A locomotive named Hilda was, for example, used to transport stones from the Vosges' pink sandstone quarry to the site.
