In 2019, the Musée de l’Armée and the Fondation Napoléon launched an international subscription for the restoration of the tombs of Napoleon I and his brothers Joseph and Jérôme, within the Invalides. The two organisations were joining forces to restore the places of memory to their former glory on the occasion of the bicentenary of the emperor’s death on 5 May 2021. Two years later, in February 2021, the fundraising objective was reached and even exceeded. Nearly 2,310 donors, French and foreign, individuals and companies, have enabled the restoration of the tomb, the crypt and the Victories, and the Saint-Jérôme chapel.
