Used to the harsh climate of their native Franche-Comté, the Comtois horses remain upright, with their backs to the wind to protect their heads in cold and windy conditions. They also seek to regroup and stay close to each other. Their massive build of draft horses gives them a certain hardiness which also allows them to better resist the variations of temperature and to spend winter in the meadows.
