Since 1977, the Lac du Der-Chantecoq has been a wildlife reserve. The authorities have clearly understood the tourist and environmental stakes. What was only supposed to be a water reservoir to regulate the waters of the Marne and the Seine, has taken on a completely different aspect with the massive arrival of wild birds. The League for the Protection of Birds (LPO Champagne-Ardenne) is very active in the lake area. This non-profit association aims to act for the bird, the wild fauna, nature and Man. Thus, it fights against the decline of biodiversity through knowledge, protection, education, and mobilization.
