Renowned for its triple falls

Navigable from May to October, the Guil has a European reputation with kayakers, particularly thanks to the succession of rapids in the valleys of Château-Queyras and Ange Gardien and the triple falls of La Chapelue (photo). Falls are natural breaks caused by a change in geological nature (soft rock - hard rock) or by the obstruction of blocks that have fallen into the river's bed. When the volume of water is sufficient, they constitute rappels, i.e. water movements at the break in slope.
