Between Reims and Epernay, the municipality of Aÿ-Champagne extends in the middle of the vineyards. It has been renowned for its vines since Gallo-Roman times, and Pline the Elder (23-79) talked about the region's wines. In 1607, King Henry IV conferred administrative autonomy to the city, which lasted until the French Revolution. The terroir of Aÿ-Champagne, listed among the 17 Grand Cru villages of the Champagne Region, flourishes in the Marne valley. The Domaine Richard estate participates in perpetuating the wine-growing tradition of the village listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
