The asexual reproductive mechanism of hermaphroditic corals allows new individuals to develop by the budding of a parental polyp. As for the fixed sexual madrepores, their internal clock tells them when to reproduce. Under the influence of the moon phases, males and females simultaneously release their gametes once a year in a perfect synchronization between all the corals of the same species.
