Distribution of New Caledonia's cattle herd

The main part of the cattle population of New Caledonia is found on the main island, Grande-Terre, and in particular in the South province which concentrates 46.2% of the cattle farms and 60.5% of the livestock. The large breeding stations are concentrated on the West Coast (Boulouparis, Bourail...) which accounts for 85% of the livestock of commercial farms. The recession in the sector has mainly affected the North province, which has lost more than a third of its breeders.
