Renowned for their hardiness and endurance, the Comtois horses are well adapted to the mountain climate of the Haut-Doubs and Jura plateaus in Franche-Comté, their traditional breeding region. For this reason, they are appreciated in the mid-mountain areas of the Massif Central, the Pyrenees and the Alps but are also found in Alsace and Burgundy. They have also been exported to several countries in Europe such as Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
