Remains and virtual reconstitution

From the remains of Cluny, visitors have to try imagining what the most important religious complex of the Western world in medieval times was. Less than ten percent of the original buildings are still visible today. Thus, of the Major Ecclesia, the largest abbey of the Middle Ages, only the southern arm of the great transept with the Eau Bénite (Holy Water) bell tower and that of the small transept with the Jean de Bourbon chapel remain. Thanks to the technologies developed by the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) center hosted by the abbey since 1901, a virtual reconstitution of the site in the form of a 3D film has been accessible to visitors since 2010.
