Corsica does not lack water, which distinguishes it from most major Mediterranean islands. Thanks to its mountains which act as condensers for winds charged with moisture, the island retains the clouds and receives an average of 35in (890mm) of water per year against 21in (540mm) for neighboring Sardinia. The precipitations are unequally divided into 3 zones from its shores to its peaks.
