Chaotic relief of the Loyalty Islands

The Loyalty Islands are high carbonate islands constituting the summit part of the Loyalty ridge resulting from the folds of the oceanic crust east of the Australian plate. Unlike Grande-Terre, they have a low but particularly chaotic relief with coastal cliffs and vast networks of caves and chasms in the particularly permeable limestone soil. Lifou island peaks at 341ft (104m).
