The municipality of Verzenay holds a peculiar land lighthouse, immersed in a sea of vines. The 82 ft high structure (25 m) was built in 1909 by champagne producer Joseph Goulet. The lighthouse was a renowned place of celebration before World War I and housed a dance hall, a theater, and a kindergarten. A railway line connecting Reims to Verzenay was even built to carry the numerous Sunday visitors. The war put an end to the dreams of Joseph Goulet, whose name was erased from the lighthouse's structure during the renovation of 1994.
