In 2004, after twelve years of technical extinction of white lions in their ancestral homeland, the Global White Lion Protection Trust began its reintroduction program. Today, the organization has managed to reintroduce three groups of white lions into their endemic natural habitat in Timbavati. In 2006, the second family of 5 lions - lioness Zirha, male Mandla and their three yearling cubs, Zukhara, Matsieng and Nebu - to walk towards freedom delighted scientists by immediately starting to explore its new territory of 1000 hectares, ignoring the wildebeest carcass placed at the entrance of the protected area to encourage it to engage. Lions are likely to encounter other predators residing in the protected area, such as leopards, hyenas, jackals or servals.
