Corals and algae are the primary producers of the coral ecosystem and the limiting factors for the development of its other levels. They are eaten by herbivorous and omnivorous fish that limit algal populations while corallivorous fish limit coral populations. As for predatory fish, they limit the populations of herbivores and corallivores.
