The vegetal saps of red color like haematin have been used for their coloring virtues for millennia. They have locally replaced the domestic vegetal dyes such as Isatis tinctoria and indigo to dye silk, cotton, wool and leather by using the compound extracted from the wood and made bright red by its exposure to the air oxygen and the alkaline bases of the wood itself.
