In 1955, eighteen Var winegrowers and owners, including the estate of Brégançon Castle in Bormes-les-Mimosas, received the Crus Classés Côtes-de-Provence title of excellence. Such recognition, which enabled them to achieve the status of Superior Quality wine, also allowed them to benefit from a Controlled Designation of Origin in 1977. In return, the winegrowers commit to producing the three colors of wine (red, rosé, white), and not only the rosé wine that constitutes the flagship product of the Côtes-de-Provence designation. They also endeavor to guarantee the quality and authenticity of their vinification and aging processes, as well as the origin of their bottling.
