Recessive gene

White lions are rare in the wild. Following a genetic mutation, the allele responsible for the white phenotype expression of these lions is recessive. Only two individuals mating, having this recessive allele, are likely to have white lions cubs.
Occasionally, white lion cubs are born from normal lions which carry this recessive gene. It happens in the Timbavati region or even Kruger National Park.
