The head of Hermann's tortoises (Testudo hermanni hermanni) is the control tower of the fortress represented by its shell. Very mobile, it finishes its neck that can lengthen conspicuously. The reptile's eyesight is not exceptional, but it can distinguish shapes and bright colors like red and orange. Its ears are actually internal eardrums hidden under horny material on the back of its head. Although endowed with excellent olfaction, the Hermann's tortoise is especially receptive to vibrations and heat variations.
