The spruce trees on the edge of Lake Servières in the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park do not appear to be very old nor particularly large. They are far from reaching 3.2 ft (1 m) in diameter, while the variety can reach 16.4 ft (5 m) in circumference and five hundred years in longevity. The conifers, which are very sensitive to attacks by parasites, fungi, and gales due to their superficial rooting, have indeed only been established relatively recently in Lake Servières' area.
