Good gardian's horses have rare and much sought-after qualities for herding bulls. They must know how to position themselves and gather (aramber) the herd the way sheepdogs do. An apprenticeship of two to three years after their breaking-in is necessary for the horses selected for their innate sense of the bull. The gardians must then spare them to ensure their longevity. After a career of about twenty-five years, good gardian's horses are definitively released into the manade until the end of their life.
