The aito along the beaches of the Raivavae motu add to the mythical dimension of the island. In the legendary songs of creation, the aito are born from the warriors' bodies, their blood becomes their sap and their hair their leaves. They were thus planted around the marae, because they were the emblem of 'Oro, the god of war, whose statues were carved in this wood.
