The Camargue bull, or raço di biòu, is trained for Camargue races, a sporting game aiming at catching award-winning attributes attached to its browband and horns. The so-called cocardier bull is castrated at the age of one year, hence the name biòu (beef). It is not put to death but only pursued by raseteurs dressed in white. Camargues races have traditionally been practiced around the Rhône delta since the Middle Ages. They give pride of place to the cocardiers and allow them to demonstrate their agility, combativeness, and bravery in the face of men.
