Racing bulls castrated early

The bulls intended to become cocardiers in Camargue racing are castrated. Designated by the term bistournarge, this castration usually takes place between three and five years. Among the several methods existing, the most common consists of crushing the testicular cord with forceps of the Burdizzo type. The operation is often carried out by the manadier (guardian) or an experienced caretaker. Castration improves the behavior of cocardiers bulls and limits fights between males.
