South American vanilla is the most endangered plant in the world. Vanilla is a climbing orchid that can grow up to 15 meters in height. Originally, it was used by the Aztecs in Mexico (South America) to flavor cocoa. It was then introduced on the African and Asian continents. Unfortunately, South American vanilla is now a rarefied plant that is threatened by overexploitation of tropical forests.
