The land quality estimation is based on the physical and chemical fertility of the soil as well as its fragility to erosion. It is generally poor to medium in Lifou with a predominance of lands of poor quality. If aerial erosion is limited to wind erosion thanks to the forest cover and the island's lack of relief, the risk of land entrainment along the karst cracks is present.
