Pycnandra acuminata is a hyperaccumulator tree endemic to the tropical forests of New Caledonia and their ultramafic rock soils saturated with nickel. Its sap contains such a concentration of this metal that it assumes an easily identifiable blue-green color, but its powers of accumulation also concern -though more discreetly - its branches, leaves and seeds.
